Frequently asked questions
How deep should mulch be?
An established bed may only need a light refresh, while a new installation may need a deeper layer. Excess mulch against trunks, stems or foundations can create moisture problems, so measure the intended depth rather than automatically selecting the largest allowance.
How much does one cubic yard cover?
One cubic yard covers about 324 square feet at one inch deep, 162 square feet at two inches or 108 square feet at three inches before settlement and irregular-edge waste.
Should landscape fabric be included?
Fabric is commonly used below decorative stone, but it may be undesirable beneath organic mulch that is intended to decompose into soil. Confirm drainage and planting needs before adding it.
