How much concrete do I need?

Multiply slab length by width and thickness to find volume, then convert to cubic yards and add an allowance for uneven excavation and spillage. The calculator prices the selected slab area and thickness-related conditions, but the ready-mix supplier should confirm the final order quantity.

Does concrete thickness change the price?

Yes. A thicker slab requires more concrete and may require additional excavation, base material and reinforcement. Vehicle loads and local code requirements should determine thickness rather than price alone.

Is stamped concrete more expensive?

Stamped work normally adds color, release agents, pattern tools, detailing and sealing labor. Borders, multiple colors and difficult access can widen the difference from a basic broom finish.

Concrete cost factors that matter

Thickness, base preparation and reinforcement often matter more than the decorative finish. A patio on compacted level ground is a different project from a driveway that requires excavation and a reinforced six-inch pour.

Worked example

A 20-by-12-foot slab contains 240 square feet. Adding 10% waste creates a 264-square-foot material allowance. Increasing thickness from four to six inches should change concrete volume as well as placement labor, while demolition adds breaking, hauling and disposal.
